"Special:01 - More magic from Mackmyra"
Nose
Very welcoming indeed, with pear drops and lychee to the fore. Very clean and sweet.
Palate
More of the same. The whisky coats the mouth but is surpringly soft and rounded, with lovely soft fruits balaced spicy icing sugar and some almond notes.
Finish
Sweet and fruity with a hint of mild pepper.
Comments
More magic from Mackmyra. If you’re not convinced yet by this distillery, this will swing it.

"A lovely dram"
Nose
Perfumy. Floral. Light and sweet. Delicate garden fragrances. Wild roses. Turkish delight. Hint of smoke.
Palate
Velvety. Round. Sweet malty flavours at first then a burst of spices, dancing on the tounge. Drying into a mineral flavour.
Finish
Dry, concentrated.
Comments
A lovely dram. Delicate on the nose, quite brisk on the palate. But with a good substance. Invigorating.

"The 1st Edition has character"
Nose
Custard slices, cherry stone/marzipan and a hint of angelica before a shift to freesia then iced biscuits. High toned. A little naked with water suggestive of youth, but has character.
Palete
Gentle and fairly sweet. Lychee like fruits. Well balanced. Moves into tinned peach. Best neat as water brings out a new make note.
Finish
Short and clean.
Comments
Mackmyra comes of age and it's good.

"A comfort on a rainy day"
Nose
Light and floral. Unripe lemon at first nose. Then opening on sweet notes. Lemonade. Vanilla waffle.
Palete
Smooth. Round and gentle; bowl of cereals. Muësli with grapefruit segments. Yogurt. A touch of white chocolate. A delicate minty note.
Finish
Not long but smooth with a slight almondy note.
Comments
A dram which needs time to reveal itself. Young maybe but well shaped. A comfort on a rainy day.

"More please!"
"The first 'big' release from this Swedish distillery. I’m very impressed. It’s youthful, but not immature. Very intriguing too. Bright notes of ripe orchard fruit and soothing vanilla cream on the nose and palate, along with more subtle bramble, silky honey and caramel, toasted coconut, marshmallow, bread dough and grist. Teasing smoke emerges occasionally, adding to this whisky’s delight. Clean, toasted oak finish. I particularly enjoy the complex interplay between the fruit and sweetness. A fun whisky with a playful personality. More please! (Note: this whisky is not yet available in the U.S.)

Advanced Malt Advocate magazine rating: 90

"The best mackmyra so far"
The last two Preludium bottlings from the distillery suggest that it's found its footing, and the new bottling called First Edition and effectively the first Mackmyra proper, is a cracker. How wonderful to see a distillery quite literally coming of age. [The First Edition is] light, fruity and peaty. Delightful and the best Mackmyra so far.

"Enjoy the ride!"
Colour
Chartreuse/primerose yellow

Body
Silky and sensuous with a smooth viscous texture. It’s a light bodied spirit which shows all the exuberant passion of youth, completely free of the weight of oak and the passage of time. It stimulates and uplifts the senses beautifully.

Aroma
The first notes to rise are of clear honey over fresh pineapple and melon with a zest of lemon rind. It’s a brilliant opening; fresh sweet and citrus really brings the olfactory senses alive and prepares them for the second aromatic phase which takes about 4-5 minutes to emerge. Then the mellowing sweet nature of the oak gives aromas lightly nutty tannins, rich vanilla and hints of spicy gingerbread. The crisp dry sweetness of the toasted malted barley evolves last and holds it all together in a beautifully balanced experience.

Taste
The sensations experienced by the nose can all be found in the last taste which is a sign of good distilling practice, however more fruit flavours become apparent; peach and apricot, almost yoghurt like, which is a bonus. They bring even more complexity and help the balance between oak and fruit. The texture is vicious due to non chill filtering and helps to cool the heat normally experienced from younger single malts. The spirit has a vitality – it’s dynamic, exciting and has loads of attitude, it’s ready to rock – so enjoy the ride!!!

Finish
The length of the finish is not so long, nor would you expect it to be; this is like a teenager, just full of the joys of life, without a care in the world, however the last note you find as you empty your glass, is the mellow sweetness of the oak, a clear sign that this kid has a very bright future, 'Be part of it'.

"Quite wonderful"
"Nose: Rich orange liqueuer, Drambuie, sweet ginger Palate: Distinctive Swedish oil and peat up front, then cinnamon and children’s cough medicine, tangerine and finally earthy spicy notes Finish: Light, fruity and peaty - quite wonderful"

Dominic Roskrow, That's the spirit, June 2008

"Almost perfect in its constitution"
"[Mackmyra preludium:01 is] ...an astonishing whisky. Not the most complex whisky in the world, but given the conditions (about three years in oak) surprisingly nicely put together, almost perfect in its constitution. It hits the spot in the palate, a sweet initial taste vitalised by a lively fruity acid, before the anticipated oaky warmth rounds it all off. The alcoholic flavour that might be expected from a young distillate does not even permeate the aftertaste, which is just a touch oily."

Henrik Aflodal, whisky journalist, www.whiskyspot.com mars 2006

"Top buy. An aroma extremely rich in alcohol, with a very fine grainy character. Wonderfully well distilled, with a full, long flavour and a vanilla-tinged oak character.” Rating: * * * * * !

"Mackmyra, a distillery on the edge of Gävle, is offering us a malt whisky of the very highest class: Mackmyra Preludium:02"

Bengt-Göran Kronstam, Allt om vin [All About Wine] no. 7/2006 and Dagens Nyheter 6/8/2006

"Mackmyra has undeniably succeeded with The Swedish Oak"... "We now have clear proof that Swedish oak is excellent for the storage of whisky, and we look forward to other varieties and releases that have had the benefit of maturing on casks made of wood from the oak forest on Visingsö.”

Whiskyguiden.com August 2006

"For the first time it is the barley that really springs forward, sweet, gristy and young. As it should be. The oak has backed off allowing the malt full rein. [...] This is the one I have been waiting for - especially the nose. If the first two bottlings was the distillery clearing its throat, here is the speech that clearly marks Mackmyra’s intentions to be a complete one off. This is the Great Whisky I had been hoping for: full of unique aromas, flavours and shapes on the palate and more delicate than I could possibly have predicted. Some of you, I suspect, will taste this and wonder what all the fuss is about. All I ask is that you forget Scotch, Japanese and all the other malts for a while. Clear your mind and start afresh. Others will already be booking tickets for Stockholm. Abba Dabba Doo...!!!"

"95 out of 100".

"Broad, explosive, fiery aroma in an elegant, delicately flowery style. Gentle, full-bodied, mild flavour in a long, elegant style with no trace of smokiness.”

“We undoubtedly have a great distillery being created here”
